Profile Information

About Me:: I'm a 36 year old homeschooling mom who is trying to keep a sense of humor and my sanity, while homeschooling my kids. I am also trying to stay in step with my Lord, so that I will lead my children in the right path.

How Long have you homeschooled?: 2 years

What ages are your children?: 6 and 4

What Homeschool theory do you ascribe to?: Eclectic. Don't believe in totally "unschooling," but I do agree that kids are learning all the time, even without formal instruction. However, I believe in lots of reading and finding areas of strengths, as well as discovering the kid's learning styles and my teaching style.

What is your primary goal in Homeschooling your kids?: Instill Christian values and morals. Teaching the kids how to think independently and to not be afraid to go against the norm. I also want to teach the kids how to think creatively and to use their imaginations.

What is your greatest challenge with Homeschooling?: Need a break here and there from my kids! Also, the budget is EXTREMELY TIGHT!

At 9:28pm on March 3, 2008, Suz said…: Thanks Janet - your prayers are MUCH appreciated! No one really knows what this means yet, though HSLDA has issued us an email calling it an unfortunate decision yet telling us:

"We do want to make one point clear, however. Nothing has changed in California regarding your homeschool. HSLDA maintains that the advice we give homeschool families is accurate and that filing a private school affidavit, or enrollment in a private school independent study program (I.S.P) is a valid option under the law in California."

We'll just have to wait and see - but this was quite a wake-up call!
